Tow company’s see a surge in accidents every time it rains. Even if you follow all safe driving best practices, accidents still occur. Everyone can get stuck on the roadside, whether you make a mistake or someone else makes a mistake. With Spring rain here, how do we make you safer on the roads?

Here are a few tips to help you:

Be careful

Consciousness is a major aspect of safe driving. There are so many things happening on the road that you must be aware of so many vehicles, so many distracted drivers, and so many dangers. You should always be careful when driving but raise the notch when it starts to rain. Slow down and keep an eye on the road. Avoid sharp cornering and full braking. This can cause the vehicle to go out of control. Stay focused, slow down, and stay in control.

Following Distance

The usual rule of thumb is to have a 2 second gap between you and the car in front of you. Wet roads require more than twice the normal clearance. If the car in front of you pauses on a wet road, you may not be able to brake in time. Failure to maintain adequate spacing may require a roadside towing company.

Using Cruise Control

Drivers using cruise control are much less responsive than drivers using the pedals manually. This worsens reaction time and increases the likelihood of loss of control. Avoid using cruise control if it is raining. You could have to wait for a towing company.

Hydroplaning

This happens after braking on wet roads or after driving over puddles above 35mph. Keeping speed under control can reduce the risk of hydroplaning. It is also important to properly inflate the tires before going out on the road.
